Max

Best Man
From training for ultramarathons together to now working as co-founders at Meritt, as Louie's younger brother he and Max have always been close. It was a no-brainer for him to become Louie’s Best Man. When he’s not working hard on the business, he’s running around the streets and hills of Edinburgh or working on another coding side project!

Go-to karaoke song: I Miss You by Blink-182

Tania

Bridesmaid
Affectionately known to most as T, Jess knew that her older sister was someone to have by her side on the big day. She's even the one that chose her name after all! T's a lover of nature, whether it's out climbing fells in the Lake District with Paul and pup Fen, off on a paddleboarding adventure or working on their garden at home.

Go-to karaoke song: “The Disneyer the better!” I’ll Make a Man Out of You - Mulan

Hannah

Bridesmaid
We first met Hannah in 2017 when Jess' younger brother Ed brought her home that Christmas as his girlfriend. Since then Hannah has become like a sister and best friend to Jess, especially bonding over their love of Taylor Swift and childhood TV shows like Hannah Montana and H20: Just Add Water. Jess can always rely on Hannah as her number one hype girl. Hannah loves all things anime and BTS, fuelled even more so by her and Ed's big trip to Japan in May/June 2025.

Go-to karaoke song: The Winner Takes It All (Meryl’s Mamma Mia version)

Theo

Chief of Treat Consumption
We rescued 10 year old Theo in December 2024 from Bath Cats and Dogs Home, after which he quickly became our little shadow. Unfortunately due to his very important duties as Chief of Treat Consumption, he is unable to attend the wedding but will be celebrating his pawrents big day from afar - wearing his green bow tie of course. Theo loves cuddling with us on the sofa while we watch Formula 1, playing with all of his toys and most importantly treats (or just any food really!).

Go-to karaoke song: Welcome to the Black Parade by My Chemical Romance

Carolyn & Chris

Parents of the Bride
Married for 40 years themselves, Carolyn and Chris are parents to Jess and her three siblings (Tania, Rich and Ed). Both of them now retired, they're probably busier than ever - Carolyn always here, there and everywhere whether it's day trips around the country or band performances, and Chris tending to his much loved garden and veggies.

Carolyn go-to karaoke song: Eternal Flame by The Bangles | Chris go-to karaoke song: Whisky in the Jar by Thin Lizzy

Ness & Nick

Parents of the Groom
Louie was lucky enough to attend their wedding when he was just 1! Nearly 30 years later they get to go to his. Ness & Nick are where Louie gets his love of hard work and creativity. Ness runs a handmade retro women’s and children’s clothing company and Nick works as a senior designer at a luxury pools & saunas company.

Go-to karaoke song (duet): Islands in the Stream by Dolly Parton & Kenny Rogers

Meg

Wedding Planner
Being so close in age, Louie and his cousin Meg have a lot of great memories growing up together. The no-nonsense-taking, event planning extraordinaire that she is, there's no one we would trust more to help us plan our wedding than Meg. She's been offering her help since before we were even engaged!

Go-to karaoke song: It’s All Coming Back to Me Now by Celine Dion

Jade

Celebrant
Jade is our very lovely celebrant who will be performing our personal ceremony at Knightor. After speaking to Jade we knew we would be in safe hands for our wedding; and it definitely wasn’t just because she has five cats...

Charlotte

Photographer
We’re so excited to have Charlotte with us for part of the day as we just fell in love with her photography when we first saw it. Charlotte is so bubbly and immediately puts you at ease; the perfect person to have to capture all of the special moments in a beautiful, candid way.

The venue

Getting There

Knightor’s location in mid Cornwall makes it easy to get to. Just 10 minutes from the A30, a mile from the Eden Project and 5 miles from St Austell train station. The full address is:

KNIGHTOR WINERY, TRETHURGY, NR ST AUSTELL, CORNWALL, PL26 8YQ

We recommend using Google/Apple Maps to take you directly to the venue itself.

There are brown tourist signs to it on the road from Carluddon to the Eden Project and there are signs at the end of the lane that joins this road.

If you do choose to use the postcode, then be aware that Postcode + SatNav directions in Cornwall are not as accurate as they could be. Though it is easy to find, Sat Navs using the postcode PL26 8YQ may send you to Knightor Close in the village of Trethurgy. From here, you are only 500 meters to the south and should just follow the leafy lane north out of the village. The granite gateposts will be found on the left after you pass the Manor House.

Parking

There is plenty of parking at the venue. All of which is close to the main barn.

There are disabled parking spaces located beside the Winery. People can also be dropped off right by the front door.

Accessibility

The barn has lift access to the 1st floor, where the wedding breakfast will be served.

There are two disabled toilets located onsite. One can be found near the courtyard and the other upstairs in the barn.

If you have any questions regarding the venue please do not contact them directly, instead speak to Jess or Louie.

The story of us

Est. 2013

April 1996

On 24th April Jess was born at Lewisham hospital; 2 hours away from home for the Read’s at that time, but just 3 miles down the road from Louie who was born exactly 2 weeks before.

25th September 2012

We first met on an AS Level Design trip to London. As two awkward teens, we sat next to each other on the coach trip back to Somerset. Jess stole some of Louie’s McDonalds fries and a friendship began; little did we know this would end up being the most special friendship we’d have.

27th March 2013

She said yes! (for the first time). This was the day it all became official and Louie asked the (first) big question “Would you like to be my girlfriend?”

September 2014

Off to university we went; Jess to study Graphic Design at Plymouth and Louie to study Business Entrepreneurship at Falmouth. The following year Louie moved to Plymouth to study Marketing.

October 2022

We moved out! After a few years of living with Jess’ parents, we moved to our home in Shepton along with Jess’ older brother Rich.

2nd December 2023

It happened! Louie got down on one knee and popped the question; read the story of our proposal down below!

25th August 2024

On a bit of a last minute weekend camping trip to Newquay, we got our first tattoos together.

9th December 2024

We made one of our best decisions ever and welcomed our 10 year old rescue cat, Theo, into our lives.

1st March 2025

We found our venue! Another last minute trip down to Cornwall, and we had found the place we’re going to start our forever. We can’t wait for the big day with you all!

The proposal

There was never any question as to whether we wanted to spend our lives together; we’re best friends and couldn’t imagine it any other way.

With 2023 being a special year for us celebrating 10 years together, Louie knew he wanted to propose that year. So, he bought the ring, and was waiting to decide on the where and when.

That was when Jess told Louie she had planned a winter weekend getaway to Cornwall for the first weekend of December, and he knew that was it. That was how he’d do it.

The week before our weekend away, Louie arranged to see Jess’ parents, Carolyn and Chris, to get both of their blessings.

When it came to the weekend, Louie was sure Jess knew because she insisted on getting some Prosecco to take. Really though she just wanted it for the vibes in the hot tub!

After a day spent on a lovely walk around a nearby reservoir where we chatted about the future, it was back at the Shepherd’s Hut, as the sun began to set over the hills, that Louie turned to Jess, got down on one knee and asked her to marry him.

Accommodation

We are lucky to have some accommodation at Knightor Winery and although we wish we could have everyone stay with us there, the number is limited.

For those of you staying onsite please find some more information below, and for those who unfortunately can’t stay at the venue, we have put together some of the recommended nearby accommodation for you to have a look!

We have access to the onsite accommodation from 4pm Wednesday 2nd September until 11am Friday 4th September. We will send one payment for the accommodation and then arrange with you all to send us your payments directly. This will be £130 per person and due on 30th June 2026.
